Holistic perinatal Course

Physiological Birth Education

Birth is not inherently a medical event to manage.
It is a wholistic, hormonal, and physiological process that unfolds best when a woman understands what is happening inside her body and why. This course was created to bring clarity, confidence, and practical preparation for families seeking to honor physiology and planning to birth outside of the medical system. Together, we explore how pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum are designed to work, what supports that design, and what commonly disrupts it. You will leave this course feeling confident in your decision to birth freely, if this path truly resonates with you.

This is education that changes how you see birth.

Whether you are planning a home birth or simply desire a more grounded, physiological understanding of birth, you will leave this experience with language, tools, and perspective that will stay with you long after your baby is in your arms.

“Everything I find focuses on interventions instead of physiology.”

You keep searching for birth education that will actually help you prepare for your homebirth, but most classes spend their time explaining procedures, policies, and what might happen if something goes wrong. Instead of learning how labor normally unfolds, you’re taught how it might be managed. You want to understand contractions, hormones, rest, intensity, and the natural blueprint of birth so you can recognize it when it’s happening in your own body, and know how to support it best.

“I can’t find anything that feels comprehensive and holistic.”

You don’t want information in fragments. You want to see how pregnancy, labor, birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum all connect. You want guidance on nourishment, preparation, environment, recovery, and the emotional landscape of the journey. You want support for the physical and mental preparation, and a space to honor the spiritual aspects of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum as well.

“I love the idea of in-person learning, but I’m afraid I’ll forget everything.”

You want real conversation, space to ask questions, and education that happens face to face. But you also know pregnancy brain is real, and labor is intense. You wonder how you’ll possibly remember it all when the day comes. Part of you worries you’ll leave inspired but without anything solid to return to later.

Here’s how Physiological Birth Education is different:

I am Arianna Tomak, a holistic homebirth doula and childbirth educator serving families in North and South Carolina.

I came into this work after experiencing the powerful and transformative birth of my own child outside the hospital system. I know what it feels like to step into unfamiliar territory, to seek information, and to desire support that honors both the intelligence of the body and the uniqueness of each woman.

Since then, I have dedicated my work to walking with families as they prepare for physiological, family centered birth. I have supported women in homes and birth centers, facilitated prenatal gatherings, and spent years studying the patterns of undisturbed labor.

Every class I teach is shaped by both lived experience and what I have witnessed alongside many birthing women: each one finds her own way.

I believe women’s bodies are intelligently designed for birth, and that education should help you recognize and work with that design.

My role is not to tell you what choices to make. My role is to help you understand how physiological birth unfolds so you can think clearly, ask meaningful questions, and move through pregnancy, labor, and postpartum with greater awareness.

I teach in a way that is practical, honest, and rooted in observable patterns of birth. We return again and again to the foundations: hormones, environment, instinct, and support.

When you understand these elements, everything else begins to make more sense.

Most childbirth classes focus on policies, procedures, and what might be done to you during labor.

This course focuses on what your body is designed to do.

Instead of memorizing hospital routines, you will learn how hormones orchestrate labor, why certain sensations happen, what helps labor progress, and what can interrupt it. We spend time understanding the natural rhythms and variations of birth so that when labor begins, you can recognize what is happening and respond with confidence.

We also look beyond labor itself. Preparation for postpartum, breastfeeding, rest, nourishment, and family integration are treated as essential parts of the journey, not afterthoughts.

We walk through the entire arc of the childbearing year together. From prenatal foundations to early postpartum rhythms, you will understand how each stage builds on the next. Families often say the puzzle pieces finally fit, and they can see how their preparation in pregnancy directly shapes their experience in labor and beyond.

We gather in real time because many families find that learning in person helps information settle more deeply and become easier to remember and apply for both the mother and her partner. You’ll be able to ask questions, hear examples, and engage in conversation that brings the material to life. And you will also leave with handouts that highlight the essential patterns, signs, and practical tools we discuss. When labor begins, you won’t be trying to recall an entire class, you’ll have clear anchors you can revisit quickly and easily.

Families often tell me they leave feeling oriented, confident, and familiar with the process rather than dependent on outside direction.

Physiological birth education includes:

  • Comprehensive curriculum that covers pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum from a holistic, physiological perspective
  • 8-14 hours of education
  • Handouts to help remember the most essential details
  • Space where your questions are answered

Education is not just knowledge; it is the light that allows us to see ourselves, our choices, and our power clearly.

Step into clarity and confidence as we explore every stage of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum one module at a time.

Explore the modules:

Module 1: Pregnancy

During pregnancy, we lay the foundation for a healthy and supported birth journey. You’ll learn how to nourish your body and your baby with practical nutrition guidance, strengthen and align your body through gentle physical preparation, and deepen the bond with your baby before birth. This module also emphasizes informed choice, helping you understand your options, make intentional decisions, and create a pregnancy experience that honors your values, your body, and your baby’s needs.

Module 2: Physiological Birth Blueprint

Labor is a carefully orchestrated process, and understanding its natural rhythm is key to supporting it. In this module, we explore how the body is designed to birth, how hormones work together to guide contractions, progress, and instinctive behavior, and what factors can disrupt the process. You’ll also learn about brain wave states in labor, how the mind shifts throughout each phase, and how creating the right environment can support a calm, focused, and safe experience.

Module 3: Physiological Birth Process

This module walks you step by step through the mechanics of birth. You’ll learn how to recognize the signs of labor, understand contractions and dilation, and identify patterns in labor progression. We cover pushing, birthing the placenta, and early postpartum changes, giving you the knowledge to follow your body’s cues, trust the natural flow of labor, and respond effectively during every stage of the birth process.

Module 4: Labor Sensations and Coping

Intensity in labor is part of the design, but it is manageable when you understand it. This module covers pain theories, how your body instinctively copes with intensity, and practical comfort measures you can use. You’ll explore positions for labor and birth that support progress, reduce discomfort, and allow your instincts to guide you. Partners also learn how to provide effective support and help create a calm, protected environment.

Module 5: Postpartum

Birth is only the beginning of the postpartum journey. This module focuses on immediate and early postpartum physiology, recovery, and bonding with your baby. You’ll receive guidance on breastfeeding, placenta options, and practical preparation for the first weeks at home. We also explore cultural traditions that honor mothers and the transition to parenthood, helping you navigate postpartum with confidence, clarity, and holistic support for your body, your baby, and your family.

Optional Module: Interventions and Variations

While this course focuses on physiological birth, you may feel drawn to understand the choices, variations, and interventions that may arise. In this module, we cover routine medical interventions, pain management options, labor induction methods, and alternatives to induction, helping you understand when and why they may be used. We explore labor variations, cesarean birth, VBAC, and strategies for preparing for the unexpected while maintaining your preferences whenever possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

This course is for women and families who want a deep understanding of how pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum unfold physiologically. It is ideal for those planning a home birth or birth center birth, but the knowledge applies wherever your baby is born.

No. This course is educational in nature and is designed to help you understand how birth works. We focus on physiology, preparation, and informed decision making so you can navigate conversations with your care providers with greater clarity.

Sessions may be held in your home, in a public meeting place, or virtually depending on your location and preferences. Virtual participants will need access to a device, internet connection, and/or phone service.

The course includes 5–7 sessions, each approximately one to two hours long. This allows us to move slowly, answer questions, and make sure the material truly integrates.

No. Birth is dynamic, and no class can promise a particular experience or outcome. What this course offers is understanding: how the body works, how labor typically unfolds, and how to prepare physically, mentally, and (for Christian families) spiritually. Families often find that this knowledge helps them navigate whatever path their birth takes with greater clarity and assurance.

Great! Education and support work beautifully together. Many doula clients find this course helps them understand what their doula is observing and suggesting during labor.

Partners are highly encouraged to participate. When partners understand labor patterns, hormones, and environment, they often feel more confident and capable of offering meaningful support.

You won’t be relying on memory alone. Families receive clear, thoughtfully prepared handouts that highlight the most important signs, patterns, and tools, giving you something tangible to revisit when labor begins.

The investment is $450. Doula clients receive a discounted rate of $350.

Full payment is due at registration. There are no deposits, payment plans, or refunds.

The quality of virtual sessions can depend on your device and internet provider. While I make every reasonable effort to create a smooth experience, I cannot guarantee connection quality.

I recommend scheduling your sessions so that you finish by around 37 weeks of pregnancy. This allows the material to stay fresh in your mind while still giving you time to sit with what you’ve learned before labor begins. Your handouts will also serve as helpful refreshers in the final weeks as you prepare to welcome your baby.

Previous experience can be a wonderful foundation, and many returning mothers find this course brings new depth and clarity to what they lived through before. Understanding the physiology of birth often helps women make sense of past experiences, recognize patterns they didn’t see at the time, and prepare differently for what’s ahead. Even if you’ve taken a class before, revisiting the material with fresh perspective can strengthen your confidence and awareness for this birth.

To register for the course, simply email me at ariannatomak.work@gmail.com to begin the process. I’ll follow up with next steps, scheduling options, and payment details so we can reserve your place and begin preparing together.

The Physiological Birth Course is a private, in-depth childbirth education experience designed for families who want a comprehensive understanding of the natural processes of pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. These sessions are offered one-on-one (in person or virtually) over 5–7 weeks, allowing plenty of time for personalized discussion, questions, and preparation that is tailored to your specific birth plans, especially for families planning home births or birth center births. We explore the hormonal and physiological design of birth, nervous system support, labor stages, partner roles, postpartum planning, and practical preparation for an undisturbed birth experience.

The Childbirth Education Group Class is a shorter, in-person class offered locally for families in all birth settings, including hospital births. While still centered around natural and informed birth, it does not go as deeply into the physiological and holistic aspects of birth as the private course. It still provides a solid foundation in labor, comfort measures, and informed decision-making in a group setting.

Await for labor with confidence and peace

Birth is not just an event to get through. It is a powerful transformational journey that your body already knows how to do.

When you understand the physiology of pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum, you begin to see the purpose behind the sensations, and the ways your environment and support can influence the journey. Education removes fear and anxiety, and allows you to embody a peaceful state of being in the last weeks of pregnancy and through labor. It allows you to prepare sufficiently, and face postpartum with preparedness and joy.

This course was created to give you that foundation. Together, we slow down, ask good questions, and learn how birth works when it is allowed to unfold naturally. Whether you are planning your first baby or welcoming another, you will leave with knowledge you can carry into labor, into postpartum, and into the way you remember your birth for years to come.

I can’t wait to work with you. email me to get started: ariannatomak.work@gmail.com
